Porvoo private tour with Helsinki highlights

visit old wooden town of Porvoo

A town plan from the Middle Ages, the low small houses, picturesque yards and narrow streets form a historically unique wooden town milieu.

Finland’s second oldest town is found in a relaxing, idyllic coastal setting filled with colorful wooden houses.

Our journey, which can be made by minibus or bus, begins at the port or hotel and takes you to old wooden town of Porvoo and Highlights of Helsinki.  On the way, we’ll see the Alvar Aaltos masterpiece Finlandia Hall, and the unforgettable Temppeliaukio “Rock Church” – a one-of-a-kind structure built right into the city’s bedrock. We’ll also make a short photostop at the monument of the famous Finnish composer Sibelius which is made more than 600 stailess steel pipes, and see another key landmark, the functionalist-style Olympic Stadium, which served as the site of the 1952 summer Olympic Games.

The journey then leaves the city behind for tranquillity of the countryside. After a few minutes’ drive through beautiful nature areas, Finland’s second oldest city, Porvoo, opens up from the Old Bridge. This picturesque, little town filled with old wooden houses, narrow lanes and romantic flower arrangements reflects a harmonious and peaceful lifestyle that’s hard to find in today’s Europe.

Porvoo-Tuomiokirkko

The town’s numerous small boutiques, cafés, and restaurants invite you to enjoy local delicacies and crafts. Especially Porvoo’s chocolate and licorice are renowned treats that you shouldn’t miss, they are great gifts to bring home with you!

Back in Helsinki, the day continues with a walk around many of downtown’s must-see sights, including the Senate Square with the impressive Helsinki Cathedral, and the Uspenski Cathedral, an Orthodox church that can be called the largest in the Western Europe.
